Accessibility

What we build to, and what to do when we miss.

The target is WCAG 2.1 AA. Below is what that means in practice here, including the parts we know are not finished.

On this site

  • Text contrast meets AA in both light and dark themes; the ratios are chosen against the specific backgrounds they sit on, not assumed.
  • A visible focus outline on every interactive element, and a skip link to the main content.
  • The page is readable and navigable without JavaScript. The only scripts are a mobile menu and a theme toggle.
  • Themes follow your operating system by default, and the toggle can return to that setting rather than trapping you in a choice.
  • Animation respects prefers-reduced-motion.
  • No third-party embeds, so nothing on the page is an accessibility surface we do not control.

In the product

  • No state is signalled by colour alone. This is not a general principle here, it is a specific safety requirement: the product’s primary accent is green and its recording indicator is red, which is the exact pair roughly one man in twelve cannot reliably separate. Recording always carries a pulsing dot and the word REC and a running timer. A section that has been copied carries a check and collapses and announces itself in a live status line.
  • Every interactive control is reachable and operable from the keyboard.
  • Codes, identifiers and the recording clock are set in tabular figures so numbers do not shift as they change.

Known gaps

One interface border in the product sits below the 3:1 contrast threshold WCAG 1.4.11 sets for non-text elements. It is a known, recorded state rather than an oversight: it was reviewed on screen and kept deliberately, and the measurements are written down so the decision can be reopened rather than rediscovered.
